Money and fame has changed so many of our beloved Mzansi personalities such that it is hard to believe they were once broke, poor and different from what they are now.
Siyabonga Nene, also known as Big Zulu of Imali Eningi fame is one example.
A recent picture of him with one of the top Mzansi’s underground rap dog Duncan has left Mzansi cracking with laughter.
Could it really he him? Many have questioned after spotting a number of differences from what he is now.
Big Zulu can be seen with a frail frame and skinny body (in contrast to how he is now). Judging from Duncan’s dressing, this was back in 2010 in the height of contemporary South African hip hop, and before the stars made it into the limelight.

Big Zulu rose to fame late 2018 on his decade long career in the South African hip hop and traditional Maskhandi genres.
After his all-time viral hit, Imali Eningi featuring Intaba YaseDubai last year, Big Zulu has amassed a huge following and respect as one of the greatest contemporary rappers in Durban and South Africa as a whole.
His unique hip-hop laced with traditional Maskhandi (duped Ushuni WeNkabi/ tune for Taxi bosses) has made him stand out in South Africa’s music scene.

After the death of his closest friend and colleague, Ricky Rick on the 23rd of February 2022, Big Zulu shared how heartbroken he was over the sad news.
It is also alleged in the hip-hop circles that Big Zulu owes his success to Ricky Rick who promoted him and helped him grow in music.
According to the controversial music commentator Nota, Ricky Rick revived Big Zulu’s career and contributed to the success of Imali Eningi.
As a sign of respect, the rapper released a song in honor of the late.
The multi-award winning rapper left Mzansi teary and emotional with this song he titled ‘Lala Ngoxolo Ricky Rick’
He featured Mduduzi Ncube and Siya Ntuli, two of the artists signed under his record label Inkabi Records.
