Slindile Cele aces her matric at 31 years old. What some people achieve at a younger age, some can get at a later stage in life, but after all is said and done, achievements are to be celebrated.
Slindile Cele, who is 31 years old from Ndwendwe, KwaZulu Natal has reached a remarkable milestone in her life. Initially, she revealed to have failed her matric in 2006 and later registers in 2020 for grade 11. She is also the mother to a baby girl who is 18 months old.
The proud Slindile recently announced that her dream had come true after passing the matric and got a bachelor’s distinction to go with it. She had enrolled at Mzingezwi High School as a full-timer student. Slindile was very open and went on to share her story that led to this success she managed.
“I was even older than some of the teachers,” Slindile said.
“I told myself I must respect them and focus on my goal. I was a laughing stock at school. It was painful but I know how pupils are,” she went further.
Some people who were closer to her also went against her idea of going back to school, but she remained adamant.
Slindile also revealed that, “My uncle’s wife said I wouldn’t get accepted at school so I left his house. I saved money so I could pay for my school fees, uniform, and rent. I fell pregnant but I decided to hide my pregnancy because there was no turning back.”
She also shared how we child would stay at a crèche, so that school work was done.
“I paid rent with my child’s support grant because my baby daddy was not supportive. Sometimes I went to sleep without food. but later the school arranged for her to get cooked food to take home,” explained the lady.
As for her plans she said,
“All those that were laughing have been silenced. My uncle’s wife hasn’t said anything. I tried calling her but I think she blocked me.
Seems it’s never too late for one to achieve their goal.
